Matthew Williamson PF14 Embroidered Lace GownRich colour, fine lace and meticulous embroidery. This gown has the all the esteemed elements of eveningwear, but the collection’s woodland theme runs through them with its pulse of a wild party.

Constellations of 20,000 sequins are scattered through the contours of the gown – the effect is effortless but the placement flatters as the amethyst and magenta magically cinches the waist in an optical illusion of embroidery. Just like clusters of wild flowers on a forest floor, the sequins have been hand-sewn into floral patterns, their layers becoming leaves and petals. It was a new embroidery technique for the studio – the delicacy of the sequins mean 15cm of lace take 3 hours of concentrated embroidery. The lace itself, with threads arranged in floral twirls, becomes modern in fiery-hot orange. It’s a tale of two gowns – one evening elegance, one riotous colour – just choose which way you want your night to go.The End
