The English Rose Shows: New Season Now
I need a fresh new style note to perk up my January. The glossies’ trend reports have me yearning for a June wedding to try out some supercharged florals or August in Capri to rock a romantic sundress. Weather and convention are against me… But a few clever tweaks are going to kick-start my seasonal shake-up so I can get ahead in the style stakes.
“Florals for spring, how original.” Defy the Devil Wears Prada Miranda Priestley’s cynical saying by working them now. What’s more, the new posies are powerful. The blossoms on Matthew’s summer runway were 3D-embroidered little works of art. As for resort’s Cactus Garden print – it’s hand-painted with detail to rival a botanical expert. I’m pairing the tunic (next season’s silhouette) with a slim-fitting cashmere sweater underneath. The same goes for the T-shirts – with clever layering, they’re the easiest way to wear it now.
I know some shy away from colour at this time of year. Their worlds must be a darker place. The hot coral of the Botanical necklace will catch everyone’s eye under your winter coat or make like the editors at Fashion Week with a punchy-coloured pant against a white shirt. As Matthew once told me, colour can be just as powerful as black – “be the girl in the pink dress in a sea of black.” On that note, go get a head start on the season!
