Animal Ball Mask 2016
This year, Matthew has designed a bespoke mask for The Animal Ball, the Elephant Family’s fundraising event which takes place tomorrow. Philanthropists, conservationists and designers will host dinners across London before the evening culminates in a gala event in Bloomsbury.
“I’m thrilled to be supporting The Animal Ball. I’m so happy to be on board and helping this wonderful, unique initiative.”
Matthew’s mask, entitled Narissa is an ode to the butterfly. This is an animal that embodies our house codes: feminine, exotic, delicate and rich in detail. Taking a butterfly wing silhouette for the shape, the mask ties with a satin scarf in our most recent Maracas Montage print. Each was individually crafted by Rebecca Ward of Face Invader. For the last 20 years, Matthew has constantly referenced butterflies in his collections – whether in a hand-painted print for a silk chiffon gown or more recently, a digitally printed wallpaper.
Matthew joins brands including Chloe, Burberry and Jimmy Choo in creating a couture mask. These have already been on display at the V&A, curated by Ryan Lanji, and now sit at Selfridges where they can be purchased in lieu of a ticket to the event. Stay tuned for news and photos from the evening…
The Animal Ball is hosted by Elephant Family and also benefits The Aspinall Foundation, Space for Giants, Save the Rhino and Lion Guardians.
