The Nilesh Mistry x MW Rickshaw
This summer, Matthew has collaborated with the artist Nilesh Mistry on an exotic rickshaw design in aid of a very special charity project. Twenty auto rickshaws have been individually designed by artists, designers and milliners including Diane von Furstenberg, Mulberry and of course, Matthew and Nilesh. They can be seen all around London this summer before heading to the race taking place in India in November. The campaign aims to raise a total of £1 million for the Elephant Family charity, in the hope of saving the Asian elephant from extinction.
Nilesh’s designs for the rickshaw were in perfect unison with Matthew’s aesthetic – a magnificent peacock adorns the exterior. For the interior, Matthew wanted a fabric that lived up to the tropical splendour of Nilesh’s peacock. A key print in his second collection for Osborne & Little, Jungle Beat is an all-over pattern of dense jungle populated with stylised strutting wildlife. Matthew’s travels through Bali last year inspired the print.
The rickshaw is at St. Pancras Hotel on Euston Road, where it will be ferrying guests to and fro throughout the summer. On 30th June, the rickshaws will arrive in convoy at Lancaster House to be greeted by TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall for the live Sotheby’s auction. Bids can also be registered in advance here.
The campaign is presented by Elephant Family and The Quintessentially Foundation, backed by Selfridges. www.travelstomyelephant.org
