The summer season has transformed. As well as weddings and Wimbledon, there are now festivals and dusk-till-dawn galas. It really is one long party, with endless excuses to dress up. We have been through our diaries, rifled our wardrobes and jotted down inspiration. This month we’re looking at art and music events with studio sketches to inspire your look. Next month, get your game on for polo and racing.

FestivalS
The music festival has moved on from Brit pop and beer tents to bellinis and Beyonce. But mud remains, so avoid a maxi dress, however much the hippy vibe appeals when packing. Take easy cotton dresses, vibrant print scarves and peacock wellies, of course. A rainbow of sunglasses are the perfect way to change your look and hide all-nighter eyes. If ever there were a festival that knew style, this Cornish weekend with its Wardrobe Department curated by the British Fashion Council, is just the place to prove your own.

GalaS
Nothing says summer quite like a floor-length silk gown to sweep through the night until the sun comes up. This hot red gown is destined for the spotlight. We can just imagine it on a starry night in Cannes. Closer to home, the intricate pleats of the Abstract Flight gown are worthy of a heroine from La Traviata at Glyndebourne. Add a pop of colour in your clutch.

“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” So said Henry James and regardless of whether you have a glamorous party or a casual picnic, dress the part. Summer will fade but your memories (and the outfits!) will last forever. The End
