Matthew Williamson Daisy Lace Dress SS14My idea was to keep things simple and fresh. I wanted to create optimism.” Matthew’s entire ethos for the collection can be captured in the craftsmanship behind this dress.

Daisies Рtiny flowers that poke through the lawn at the first hopeful signs of summer Рhave been hand-embroidered through the lace appliqu̩ in just that spirit. 320 cubed beads, 190 crystals, 550 iridescent sequins are sewn piece by piece into petals while reams of silk thread have been knotted by hand to form the centre of the flowers.

But this modern embroidery sings rather than shouts. The most innocent colour and naive flower capture the optimism of summer. Wear it your own way with a pop of neon yellow just like the catwalk, and nature itself. The daisy’s in the detail. The End
