The English Rose Knows: City Ceremonies

Time to get hitched, say the bells of Shoreditch.

The English Rose wearing the hand-painted daisy lace skirt by Matthew WilliamsonThey may not have the quaint charm of the country or the jet-set seduction of the beach, but I do love a city wedding. Easy taxi ride home if the best man’s flirtatious moves are more shady than seductive (or vice versa, for that matter). And home is my own bed rather than the dubious damp sheets and compulsory 7am breakfast call at the local pub. Plus the bride and groom have usually upped the ante on everything from cocktails to canapés, with the capital’s finest close at hand (as opposed to the county’s catering or beach-hut barbeque).

Dress to impress the couple’s glamorous efforts. No need to wrap up against the glacial climate of a garden marquee this time round. Time to go all out. This is just the occasion I’d wear my Spring Chiffon gown with full accessories and highest heels. Or I’d mimic the catwalk in the Daisy Lace midi skirt (this season’s favourite length) with silk blouse and belt. A silk slip underneath to wear for dancing. Done.

Confetti, canapés, dinner, dancing… Then home to silk pyjamas or wherever the night takes me.

With love,

The English Rose

P.S. Today I debut my new look for the summer season – my rose head is taken from the SS14 Wild Botanical print. It’s a beauty, no?
