Great Brit Hits
This past weekend saw Matthew stay amongst the soaring skyscrapers of Hong Kong. Invited as guest of honour for GREAT Week Hong Kong and Macau, this concrete jungle was the setting for his retrospective catwalk show at the British Consulate-General, held in association with The HUB. Sixteen looks, sixteen years, sixteen models. The GREAT campaign deemed it an iconic way to showcase the innovation and creativity for which Britain is world-renowned. These designs might just be familiar to you for other reasons too… Remember Sienna Miller’s 2004 Oscars outfit? She co-designed the emerald-green and gold sari-inspired gown with Matthew, telling Harper’s Bazaar it was one of her all-time favourite outfits. Then of course the retrospective had to include the bias-cut turquoise and fuchsia dress with cashmere cardigan that Kate Moss personally requested to wear in Matthew’s debut show back in 1997. Alongside archive pieces worn by Keira Knightley, Gwyneth Paltrow and Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge, the finale line-up made for a kaleidoscopic rainbow of colour.
Matthew and the team stayed at The Upper House hotel for the weekend. Saturday evening was spent fireside in the Sky Lounge, as Dervla Louli (Managing Editor of Sassy Media Group) interviewed Matthew and Joseph Velosa, our Chair, about the brand, the industry and their inspiration. In depth and in detail, the conversation flowed with assembled guests late into the evening.
