The Matthew Williamson G installation with Georgie Macintyre (Art Director) wearing the ‘Exotikarma’ skirt that inspired the design.

Glance through the fountains of Hampton Court Palace this week and you cannot miss a giant G hand-painted in vivid florals. Designed by Matthew, it marks the entrance to the Grow area of the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show – a space to inspire keen gardeners with myriad flowers and horticultural demonstrations.

“I’m continually inspired by the beauty in nature and this is evident in all of my collections.”
Matthew Williamson

The 3m high letter captures the spirit of a bohemian midsummer garden. It was hand-painted with a botanical design first seen on the catwalk for spring/summer 2000, modelled by Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. Entitled Exotikarma, Vogue contributing editor Plum Sykes commented on the collection – “Take a London girl and send her on a trip—through Bali, Goa, and Ibiza — and you have Matthew’s glamorous and seductive vision of a well-dressed gypsy.” If the same gypsy girl had a garden, we know just where she would be seeking her inspiration…The End

The RHS Hampton Court Flower Show – the largest in the world – will run from tomorrow until Sunday 13th July 2014. It is open daily 10am-7.30pm (closing early with a plant sale on Sunday). Book your tickets here.
